Preparing your students for standardized tests

Preparing your students for standardized tests

When students score high on standardized test, it’s the school districts way to say, “Our teachers are the best.” It’s a way to evaluate teacher’s performance more than it is to test the kids, but no one thinks of testing as fun. It’s a stressful experience for everyone.Teachers are placed under tremendous pressure of making sure that students measure up by the school administration, the parents, the community and the stare, but when a teacher is stressed, she can’t do her best. She feels responsible for her student’s scores and even more, so how do we alleviate the stress when it comes to tests? It’s been my experience that in school, the teacher’s stressful mood rubs off on the student’s too, so if testing seems to be nerve wracking, maybe we need to re-evaluate why that is true and make some new testing rules.

Teach Teamwork To Students

Why is it important to teach teamwork to students and how can it be done? With the increasing use of social networking, instant messaging and online communication students are becoming connected to more and more people. I do feel positive about the increase of this type of communication and the growth of the internet as a learning tool. However, students seem to be interacting face to face with their peers less often, and some key communication and teamwork skill are being left behind and not taught effectively. Despite the growth of online communication, direct communication will always be important and necessary. Those people with these communication skills will be at an advantage as opposed to those who can’t quite get along with their peers.

Teacher tips: communication

A vital factor in the teaching  (1)

Lisa Gayagay

Communication is a vital factor in the teaching and learning process. The way a teacher communicates with her students greatly affects the kind of class the teacher is going to create. If the teacher knows how to communicate with her students there is no reason why she will not achieve her teaching goals and make her students better learners. They say that good teachers know how to communicate and good teachers are able to communicate with their students properly.

One of the biggest keys to becoming an effective teacher is having the quality of good listener affixed to your persona. The characteristics of a good teacher

Characteristics of a good/ great teacher are not so different between cultures even if methods and interpretations are. Most cultures hold teachers to a high standard of knowledge and character. Teachers are with our children minimum seven to eight hours per day in every country.. They help to mold and shape character and knowledge. How many of us would place this responsibility into the hands of a perfect stranger? Yet we often do when we send our children to school. Why would we do such a thing? We trust a system that we have been a part of. This system certifies our teachers as having met certain standards, and levels of training. We trust they are being held to a high ethic as well by our school boards or whoever governs our school systems. Have we let our expectations slide? I think in some cases we have. Most teachers are good teachers, but are they of good character? But are they great teacher? What are the characteristics of a good/great teacher? On this serious issue here is a SERIES  of above 100 articles. world is top teachers and expert writers, educators  describe the exact point of view on this issue. this is not necessary you are agree on every point but undoughtly this is the best theory or content or process for how to be a good and great teacher. What do you think about it? ........

Should Teachers Give Rewards to Students for Good Behavior?

Should Teachers Give Rewards to Students for Good Behavior?

Rewarding students for good behavior is a popular classroom discipline procedure. Teachers of habitually disruptive students like using rewards because, in a well-structured reward system, they have the potential of winning students’ compliance fast. Advocates of using rewards to discipline students with habitually disruptive behaviors claim that rewards promote compliance and stop misbehavior. Opponents of rewards state that rewarding students, an externally oriented procedure (the teacher regularly administers the rewards, not the student) are a way of controlling and manipulating children’s behavior that does little to change permanently the disruptive behavior. In other words, the short-term effect of stopping misbehavior does not translate into a long-term effect of helping children grow and develop better-adjusted ways of behaving. Alfie Kohn, the author of Punished by Rewards states that rewards can be seen as punishment in the sense that rewards both manipulate behavior and are a form of doing things to students rather than with students.  Both advocates and opponents of rewards present strong supportive arguments and I would like to bring a psycho-educational perspective to this controversy.

Group work is important

As group work in schools has become more prominent in education, teachers are developing their curriculum by not only incorporating more group work but also focusing on it. Group work is important, it gives students the opportunity to learn from each other, teaches them communication skills and helps them develop interpersonal relationship skills.

Toward Strengthening the Preparation of Teacher Educator

Toward Strengthening the Preparation of Teacher Educator

Educators, scholars, and policy makers agree that quality research is needed to improve teaching and teacher education This is especially true in the current climate of increasing pressures to produce research that can guide policy making in an age of standards-based reform and teacher accountability. As pressures to enhance student achievement and teaching practice mount, so too does the demand for better and more rigorous empirical educational research that can inform policies and practice. Critical to this improvement is the preparation and training of educational researchers in doctoral programs.
